Most of the things you are describing are pretty stereotypical of Aspergers Syndrome. Your relationship would likely benefit from discussing these things with him openly - most adults with AS usually have quite a bit of knowledge about the topic.

yes, I am constantly walking in to people. It can be either one other person or a big crowd. There is always some awkward shuffling by me to try and get around people, so I usually stay to the right. People often misread me (i'm not sure what im doing) and I misread them. Symptom: - difficulties wit...

I have seen the phrase "circumscribed interests" before, which is a mouthful, but interesting.

Your description of school makes me sad. It's unfortunate the way they are acting - it's one of the reasons why people with ADD are stigmatized as being stupid, lazy and crazy... One thing about the homework - the teacher could e-mail you on a daily (or weekly) basis to tell you what the homework is...

That looks like a neat program.

It is taking advantage of a special interest that you see frequently on WP. Making something (numbers, an egg) get bigger. It's a cause-and-effect interest. I loved sports video games when I was young because of this.

Good find.

There are things that the teachers can do to stop the stigma of chewing gum. One of the things is to allow all of the kids to chew gum. The kids will think it is fun, but soon the novelty will wear off and they will not care. Also, there parents will get real tired of buying gum. The teacher c...

hi, welcome to wp Asperger's syndrome is a difficult syndrome to grasp because of the scope of symptoms and the severity in which they affect each different person on the spectrum. Because of this, therapy, intervention and coping strategies are generally pretty trial-and-error, so have an open eye ...

Should you have high expectations for your son? Obviously, yes. The only way you can be pushing too much is if schoolwork is affecting his ability to make relationships, such as making him stay home and read when he should go out with friends. I have a high intelligence and I was allowed to coast - ...

Did you even watch the video pensieve? DW- I do not know if you could really measure whether the intensity of symptoms have increased. I would say that people are more willing to pathologize behavior than in the past. The Internet has been one of the most important influences on the increase of ASD's.

HuffPo, a website I rather dislike and is in severe need of a better server, has posted something about the Frontline program: http://www.huffingtonpost.com/jay-gordon/pbs-frontline-show-about_b_554691.html There is some interesting discussion in the comment area. Still, I doubt huffpo is going to g...

There was a Frontline episode about vaccines on PBS today. Of course the topic of Autism was discussed. Paul Offit and Jenna McCarthy were both interviewed. You can watch it here (i think/hope): http://www.pbs.org/wgbh/pages/frontline/vaccines/ I found the program fascinating. In my opinion, it sure...

You have the right to your confidentiality and there is likely laws protecting you (uhh.. i'm not familiar with law in Belgium). I would have a talk with your para and whomever the other person in the story is about not disclosing any information about your autism in public. If you are polite, relax...

Something about AS is that when you are trying to figure out the meaning of a social situation, sometimes you do so in a rigid way - that is, you think the situation went really well or really bad with an extra focus on details. In this case, you have gone with the really bad, so just relax it was p...

Right vs. left brain thinking is often used to justify many self-help books and homeopathic therapies that provide people with false hope. In general, many people do not take it seriously for the way that the original study (back in the 80's) has been misused and abused. Either way, I found your pos...

The reason is for practicing communication and writing skills as well as a preserving knowledge in fields that have been traditionally been considered important. On occasion, these classes "weed out" students that are probably not capable of completing a degree program at the time.
