I feel bad for not knowing how to empathize with this person that took their own life but I don't know how I can feel anything for them. I barely knew them so how can I have a connection with them that makes me miss them? My own mother implied that I'm selfish. I know I'm not and it's just a lack o...

If I were a psychiatrist, which I'm not, I would be reluctant to make a diagnosis based on this amount of information. I think that if these symptoms are a problem for you, in that they are causing you distress or disrupting your life, then you should seek help, from someone qualified. I have bipola...

To me it sounds just like PTSD. The original trauma was the harsh discipline, beatings and so forth. Which was traumatic from your perspective. You need to have symptoms from anxiety cluster and from avoidance cluster. To me it seems like your conduct disorder was avoidance of the trusting adult-chi...

I was on lithium to manage my bipolar, but was still depressed so pdoc added citalopram. I was on this combination for over a year and tolerated it well. After an overseas trip during which I reduced my lithium, I started developing mania so the new pdoc swiftly took away the citalopram. I developed...

My primary school teacher used to say "always treat others the way you want to be treated". I do think it's that simple. Simply imagine what it would be like to be the other person, look at things from their perspective. If someone gives you criticism, try to understand where they are coming from. I...

The following excerpt from the Wikipedia article on Bipolar disorder. It describes both cyclothymia and rapid cycling. As you can see 'rapid cycling' can be applied to any type of bipolar disorder including cyclothymia. So 'rapid cycling' is not a type of bipolar disorder, like type 1, type 2, cyclo...

Heard of 'rapid cycling bipolar' or 'ultra rapid cycling' or 'ultra-ultra rapid cycling'? I'm not sure of the exact diagnostic requirements but worth checking it out.

Back in my uni days, and then in my early career, everything was done to timetable, 24/7. It got a bit ridiculous at work since there was so much to do, more than I could ever accomplish, but I pushed myself to get as much done as possible. At that stage there was no respite at all. After eight year...

but the way you write reminds me strongly on ASD. What does that have to do with anything? A lot actually. ppl with BPD for example write very emotional and sometimes agressive, ppl with ASD write very structured, without many emotions, detail orientated and so on. It's not always like this and the...

For me its like this, I could kill myself, or I could see what's on youtube right now, or maybe first I'll make a sandwich, I wonder what is on the news, etc etc. The weird thing is, when things are going well for me, I get A's in my classes, I get a girlfriend we go on vacation. That's when I feel...

It sounds like your brother is a very important support for you.
It is important for you to have other sources of support, a good therapist for example.

We can't 100% prevent things like this from happening

Hi guys, While I don't know any of you personally, I do come back to this forum time and time again even though there is the whole of the internet to look at. The reason for that is that I find what you (all) say to be something worth saying; to be reasonable and rational and often uncluttered by th...

In my experience, addicts will always place their addictions above their friends, unless those friends are providing the drugs or the money to buy the drugs. When you said, "they obviously didn't care about my safety, or their own...only finding their 'drugs'", you said everything you needed to say...

Hi forbidden77 I have bipolar. Even with this one disorder, I have noticed that people have difficulty understanding what I am going through. It is nice when they try to be supportive though. I don't want to scare people away so I do end up keeping most of it to myself, only my husband really unders...
