Hey IBSC, I would just like to apologize for the way I have been treating you on here on this forum. I have been dealing with a lot of stress recently and have been trying to relieve it inappropriately by letting it out on people. I shouldn't have treated you like that and would like to apologize.

-Caleb.

i agree. not only does it sound phonetically vulgar, but the etymology is rather offensive as well. it's translated directly in to german as "not citizen" or "not freeman", and in french as "not sheepdog".

i think the most applicable definition is non-conformist, but that sounds too much like non-comfortist for my taste.

but theres such a vast array of possibilities we can choose from. most of them overlap with one-another in at least a few places. take your pick from any psychoanalytical label

mix and match?

see how long you can make your psychological label while maintaining sentence fluidity. ,

maybe perhaps make a business card so you don't have to inform people verbally. just pull out your wallet and hand them one and it won't be a mystery to anyone! efficiency, rather than efficacy, is what this life is really all about.. lol jk

i like telling people i'm from israel. that way you don't have to explain much, it sounds exotic, works for any skin tone, you can talk about the night life scene (sexytime++) passion, always complain about potential civil war and religious conflict if you get in to a pinch?

I personally don't like the name Asperger's either, but it is the name of the man who first documented the disorder so it should at least be named in his honour, even if he had a funny name.

Lots of diseases are named after the person who first characterized or discovered them. Alzheimers, Hodgkins, Huntington's Chorea, Tay-Sachs, Jakob-Kreutzfeld and others.

Maybe it sounds bad in certain English accents but in Dutch there's absolutely nothing phonetically unappealing about "Aspies" and I would wager that this is the case in other languages aswell.

So no, I don't think we need a new name. There's nothing wrong with the one we have.

PS: Why is this in Television, Film and Video?

What's wrong with "Aspie"? I'm usually pretty derisive of nicknames in general, and even I don't see anything wrong with that particular one.

Hm...I never found it unpleasant, either. If anything, it has a pleasant sound to me and positive connotations. I don't know whether the term suits my own characteristics or not, but that's my own perception of it.

Ugh, I can't stand "Aspie" either. I don't get why someone would give their mental condition a cutesy name; you don't see someone with schizophrenia calling him/herself a schizie. Also, it sounds like aspic.

Is there even a word for us in the English language?

I'm fairly sure that "Aspie" is just a slang term created by people with AS. Also, I dunno if I'm pronouncing it right, but is it "ass pee" or "ass pie." Neither way is very attractive to describe people with Asperger's, lol.
