Pew Research just released a short report about how Americans view their country compared to rest of the world.

The report shows a significant decline from 2011 to 2014 in the belief that the US "stands above other countries in the world".

The decline appears to be uniform across both partisan lines and age categories.

Furthermore, using the Pew political typology I previously reported here:
http://www.wrongplanet.net/postt262177.html

... the views distribute themselves as following (no 2011/2014 comparison, as the typology was just recently revised):

Please note that although Republicans are still more likely to views the US as the No. 1 country in the world than Independents and Democrats, this view has seen the largest numerical decline within the Republican Party. Of course, it is in no way given that Republicans, Independents and Democrats are becoming less impressed by their country for the same reasons.

Please discuss.

A nation of strip malls,McDonalds, mountain top removal, factory farms, and tv viewers that enjoy such intellectually stimulating shows as Duck Dynasty is not really my idea of exceptional.

Tell me what is "exceptional" about Americans? America may or may not be an exceptional country but I see nothing exceptional about American people. Whatever I see in American people I can see from any person, anywhere. We are no different, or more worthy than any other human being on earth.

to name a few things...

Exceptional gluttony: Americans consistently lead the world in the rate of adult obesity.
Image

Exceptional arrogance: Americans generally have a fantasy land mindset of wanting ever-increasing borrowing and spending AND no intention of repaying. debts.

Americans were exceptionally lucky. Lucky that a few germs and a wee bit-o-genocide gave us control of the best real estate on Earth.

Other than that... We got nuthin'.

more ... in addition to the before mentioned exceptional GLUTTONY, and exceptional ARROGANCE ...

Exceptional LUST: Americans make up only 5% of the world's population, yet account an estimated third of global consumption. Americans are noted for ?conspicuous consumption? of buying things they may not need on a whim.

Their lust for things is so great that the majority of Americans go into debt to further their acquisitions. The label used to describe this behavior is "American consumerism".
