I am more astonished when people think doctors are completely competent!
I work in the health insurance industry ( no, Michael Moore does NOT have a problem with my not for profit, member owned company, thank you!) and I could tell you stories about how 'infallible' doctors miss problems, and create even worse problems, every day.

When I first saw the title of this thread, I thought it was going to be about doctors that had found some kind of "miracle cure" for deafness...but this is the total opposite of what I was expecting! And people say doctors are competent...I think not! I mean, it's cotton wool in his ear...I would think that it would easily be spotted.

Obviously someone cheated at medical school.

Very.

A lifetime of doctors telling me i should do something about my hearing and when i finally go near deaf, and suffer pain, i go to the emergency. they remove old and black hard earwax. and my hearing was great(and thus i confirmed that i do have CAPD). in 25 years no doctor ever actually looked IN my ears, despite visits to complain about ear infections!

In that time I had pneumonia twice(also times when they should examine ears), and both times broke out in a rash after being prescribed the same medicine. The second time i visited the E-room and the doctor say there was no way it could be caused by that..

The doctor asked if i had the medicine and i presented the bottle. He took one look and exclaimed "What idiot prescribed this?" and moved his thumb.. "Oh I did. well, just keep taking it."

needless to say i did not.
