With my Mom continuing her post-hospital treatment (and headed to Boston early next week for a consultation/battery of tests for further treatment), I may have to go outside of my immediate family for advice, guidance, or just a sounding board. I have my sister and her husband, but I feel as though I could take the latter's advice with a grain of salt. I have one good friend at work, but have never asked anybody in my friend circles for advice. Are these good ideas, or any other people to ask?

Who can you trust?

I can trust my aforementioned friend and my sister, but I mostly keep things bottled up around friends, and thus I don't really open up unless circumstances warrant on my end.

Sounds like now is the time to open up.

You're right; I haven't told my supervisor or anyone in a position of intermediate authority. I did find out recently that the mother of someone in my Meetup circle is going through the same deal. My sister has asked that I keep all this off social media, BTW.

Your sister has a good point about keeping delicate family business off social media.
