Okay. Yes, the underlying mess could be a factor - and we'll mercifully avoid mention of whether I might know similar from my own experiences.
Just remember that the message sent by phrasing such as 'no reason to feel' is that the feelings being had are not real, not legitimate. If there is an effect, there is a cause. And feelings are an effect; also an affect in medical terminology.
Oh ya gotta love the affect/effect thing!
