I've taken lotsa IQ tests over the decades, and depending on how rotten I felt the day of a particular test, I scored from the mentally handicapped range [70] up into the so-called gifted range. no matter all that, I still feel barely adequate from a cognitive standpoint. :?

Please don't feel ashamed of your i.q. score. Intelligence can't be measured using any one simple test. My 12 year old daughter was tested last year for autism, but they didn't find it. What they did find is that she has a disharmonious intelligence profile- strong verbally, but weak on other areas. Her i.q. in this test is low, but she's really intelligent. She has real insight and depth. I came on this forum because there used to be a section on non-verbal learning disorders. My kid has just passed a test for 16 year olds on the English language, and some people would say "that's verbal" but what use is a higher intelligence if it doesn't lead to that sort of success. My poor daughter is going to have to go to a class below her level because the school are relying on that test.

That's terrible, 0031. Have you thought about trying a special education parents group or contacting an advocate?

I would mindful of the type of test, since they are not always accurate, and some have a history of giving autistic people artificially low scores compared to the actual condition of mind.
