That's the the best way to wake up next to breakfast in bed , isn't it?

Not even close. Check out episode 2 of the anime series "Hanaukyo Maids". Now that was an interesting wake up method. The original version Hanaukyo Maids-Tai. Not the "La Verite" remake

Leaving iTunes running to help myself get to sleep, at the same time as downloading some new mp3s. iTunes was set to run through a playlist of slow, quiet music on an endless loop. I left the downloads going so they'd be done when I got up the next day. I don't know *how long* I'd been asleep, but... the downloads finished, and I hadn't realised that I had my browser set to run files upon download completion.
So, "I Don't Wanna Be Me" by Type O Negative suddenly starts blasting out of my speakers. Hell of a way to wake up. Hell of a headache afterwards.

Last night I had a dream involving a little girl and her mother. Her mother wanted to bath her but the little girl was playing up and the mother hit her and the kid sort of went flying and hit her head. I think that whole madeleine mccann case must be too much on my mind, lol.

"Hey Jonny."

I open my eyes to my brother saying, "Smud never crumbles, turns to crud!" while holding Smud in front of my face.

This was a long, long time ago.

This morning I had overslept a little bit. I was having a most interesting dream... Then my autistic son, who tends to wake up earlier than me, comes running into my bedroom, claps loudly three times, blurts "Purple Lexx!" and runs off.

It was rather disorienting getting yanked out of the dream like that. I tried to find my way back to where I was, but didn't manage to...

Good fortune,

I once woke to what felt like an earth tremor. By the time I was fully awake I wasn't sure if I'd dreamt it, but I had heard a noise as though it knocked over something in my flatmate's room. So I asked him if something had fallen over in there. He hadn't felt the quake but had heard the noise and thought it was in my room. We decided it probably was a quake and something had fallen inside the wall between our rooms.

sheol once woke to what felt like an earth tremor but was actually my cat sitting on his head and purring :P

What is the weirdest thing to have woken you up ?

Today, I was asleep when suddenly I heard this loud 'Wake up!' in a male voice, but no-one is around as I am in an apt and no one else was in the building. It sure worked though as it did wake me up. Very odd.

Also, once I woke to see my landlord's wife standing in my doorway as the silly cow had unlocked my door and just walked in when I lived in a shared house.

I've had that too. My mind has played tricks on me occasionally. One time I woke up from a nap “frozen” (I couldn’t move any part of my body except my eyes) and there was this chatter and laughter going on downstairs. Then I heard someone yell my name and laugh. It was a bit disconcerting. My whole body started to have this buzzing sensation and then I could move again. No one was up at the time.

Another time I was sleeping in and having a dream where I was looking out a window. Suddenly someone reached around me and slammed their hand down HARD on the window sill. This instantly woke me up. It was so laud (like a gunshot 8O) that it didn't seem like a dream sound at all. I thought it was a real sound that woke me up. No one else in the house heard anything though.

Once, I pointed and said "yeah, it's right over there"

I've done stuff like that.

The craziest cannot be posted here though.

1979 - Moved to Virginia Beach in the middle of 2nd grade. That sucked. First kiss though! Tina was her name. The Celtics draft the Junior-eligible Larry Bird out of Indiana State. The rest was history. Gotta mention "London Calling". Once called the greatest album of all time, I still put it second to "Combat Rock" for The Clash albums.

Also, I used to sleepwalk and toss and turn a lot when I was little. One time at camp I climbed down from my top bunk and up into someone else’s top bunk in my sleep. It was one of the most embarrassing things ever.

Another time I rolled off the top bunk and landed on the floor. It was really weird because it didn’t even hurt. In fact I don’t even think I woke up! If I had hit my head on the ground it surely would have hurt (I have fallen and hit my head and it hurts a lot). I must have caught myself with my arms in my sleep! Some of the other kids heard me hit the floor and woke me up. Still half asleep, I kept insisting that I had only fallen from the lower bunk. I wasn’t even aware that I had fallen 5 feet!

Both of these incidents happened when I was 7 or 8 years old.

My son is about to turn four and he falls out of bed a lot. He just goes THUD and stays asleep.

1983 - Ridiculed leading into the 1984 Orange Bowl by everyone, since my Dad's cousin was the Head Coach of the underdog Miami Hurricanes. They pulled the upset 31-10 behind Bernie Kosar and won their first National Championship in 1983, beginning the dynasty. Returning to school after the holiday break was a blast. I didn't have to say a word. Finally, the kid who gave me the hardest time about how Miami was going to get killed, blurts out, "They were lucky!" I just laughed and kept my <bleep> eating grin.

Musical influences:
R.E.M. "Murmur" - The full-length start of something incredible.
Violent Femmes "Violent Femmes" - This is still an all-time great!! !
U2 "War"
U2 "Under A Blood Red Sky"
UB40 "Labour Of Love"
Thomas Dolby "The Golden Age Of Wireless"
Talking Heads "Speaking In Tongues"
The Police "Synchronicity" - One of the best. Listen to this over and over. Such a deep and well structured album.
Nena "Nena" - 99 Luft Balloons...'nuff said.
Men At Work "Cargo"
Huey Lewis & The News "Sports" - A timeless classic.
Duran Duran "Seven And The Ragged Tiger" - My favorite of their albums.
Depeche Mode "Construction Time Again"
Cyndi Lauper "She's So Unusual"

Return Of The Jedi

Maybe I just bounced . 5 feet would have been a scary fall had I been awake. It was a hard wood floor and I landed directly on the ground with no padding. I rolled right out of my sleeping bag as it was still on the top bunk. Maybe my head didn't get hurt because I hit the back of my skull rather than the front.

I've been woken up oddly a few times.

I think the one that most stands out though was one night in a hotel. It was the first night there, and I hadn't been asleep for long, but I was exhausted, so it was a deeper sleep; when I woke up, I didn't remember at first where I was (I almost always know). What woke me was the radio alarm clock. At one in the morning, the alarm went off. It was set to a Spanish radio station, and the volume was so loud (as loud as it could go). So it's one in the morning and this Spanish song is absolutely blaring, and I'm completely confused - I picked up the phone several times associating hotels with wake up calls. It took me an entire song and commercial to figure out the problem was the alarm clock; then I managed to turn it off. My brother, who I had to share a room with, slept through the entire thing.

I've also been awoken by one of the cats (Mouse) who, at the time, ate hair if you were lying down and didn't move away fast enough. He usually worked the middle, but sometimes he would creep up and get closer to the skin; when you're sleeping, you can't really stop him. I was having a nightmare and awoke by being bitten by the cat (who I couldn't see).

There are also times when I wake myself. It's always an odd feeling, like I'm dragging myself out. I focus on something real, something conscious, but it really does feel like I'm stuck inside the dream.

A giant huntsman spider was in my mouth (I was probably breathing with my mouth open due to a blocked nose); that was fun.

I had a couple of funky ones in the mental hostel; I woke up in the middle of dialing "home", I obviously missed a few digits and reached a number that isn't listed and I hung up when I realized that the person I was talking to wasn’t mum; the owners rang me back wondering who rang them from a hospital (incase they knew me).

Some times, I fall into R.E.M. sleep and cut off circulation to my brain, because my Carotid Artery is abnormally twisted and over slightly further than usual and it gets pinched when I sleep on my back. Anyway, for about 20 years I have been struggling with the bizarre behavior that occurs in these situations. Basically, I feel like I am floating and paralyzed with extremely bright lights around me. I watch a lot of Sci-Fi stuff and loved The X-Files, so I began to think I really was being abducted. Over the course of about 5 years, I began to truly fight it. I have some bit of consciousness during these episodes, but not much. Plus, I start to feel like I am passing out. Weird, cause I'm asleep. So I start trying to move my arms and legs when this happens and challenge my mind to try and wake up. After a lot of episodes and subsequent practice, I was finally able to pound my fist on the bed, so now I know I am not actually floating. I can now even bring myself to consciousness, but it is a very weird feeling. I don't feel like I am in my body when I do wake up for about 2-3 minutes. I cannot go back to sleep after one of these episodes. They found a tumor in my throat a few years ago, which is how I learned of my Carotid Artery being abnormal following multiple pre-surgery CT and MRI Scans. I kind of liked the idea of being abducted, but I had to figure this out. Now I know what was happening, and still does happen, to me at times.

Ha! After posting this they had a show on Discovery and they talked about abductions and Sleep Paralysis Disorder, which is essentially what happens to me, with the added loss of oxygen to my brain when my Carotid Artery is pinched. Funny!

1988

Good gods! I've been woken up by spiders crawling across my face a couple of times, and once by a rather large red cenipide crawling around under the sheets on my legs... And I actually love spiders... But that would have caused my entire adrenal gland to empty, I think. 8O
