I don't know why, but I kinda feel bad because I'm white-skinned. Not at myself, but more as me being part of the white people. Hey face it, in history, most of the time the white folk f****d up the s**t in places that were going pretty well. Of course now it's over, and most whites aren't racist (and I'm not) but that guilt feeling of "your race used to be an a**hole" is still present...

All races, of whatever colour, have chequered histories. No race is guilt free.

Your race is nothing to be proud or ashamed of. You just happened to be born to particular parents in a particular part of the world. The only shame or pride you should feel is over your own actions. You are not responsible for the actions of other people, of whatever race, of whatever time.

Do whatever good you are able to in the world and don't feel guilty over things you have had no control over.

Do good things for people and don't worry about the rest.

Africans got 400 years of slavery and oppression?

How long have the Jews suffered through slavery, attempted genocide, war and so on? 10,000 years?

Feeling bad that your skin is white makes you just as big a racist as those who would lynch someone for being black.

Ughh...go the Michael Jackson route and dye your skin? Other than that..dont know what to say. I treat people the way I want to be treated..if someone has a chip on their shoulder, that is their problem, not mine.

Is this why some white people appropriate other cultures? I've never understood why they did that.

There's no point in judging anyone (including yourself) by the accident of their birth.

I'll view the good things in people before the negative ones. Your ethnicity is who you are, don't be ashamed about historical injustices.

You are an evil white person. You personally oppress black people every day, you hate Muslims and every other ethnic minority group. Just because you're white you're personally responsible for slavery. White men are the scum of the Earth.

Obviously. Every last one.

I suppose the comments in this thread is a good reason why POC aspies haven't even bothered suggesting they have their own forum section. What's the point if someone cannot even discuss their own white guilt without being told they're racist for acknowledging oppression and privilege and shouldn't worry about it. This thread makes me want to throw up.

To the OP: Feeling white guilt is a natural response. It's the first step to identifying white privilege and racism. But don't let it stay white guilt. Start researching on how racism and white privilege is prevalent today, what forms it now takes in society, and how we (white people) unintentionally perpetuate the problem. Look past the silly collegiate phrases like "unpacking the knapsack" and you'll find more of the information that you're really looking for.

If you'd like more information or a book list, feel free to PM me. I'm happy to help.

I don't feel any white guilt whatsoever. Just like I wouldn't expect any other race to be guilty for the sins of their forefathers hundreds of years ago. We are who we are. Anything else is just socialist guilt-tripping.

It's not about forefathers. It's about the present. The fact that you don't get that is what makes you equally guilty as your forefathers.

My thoughts are as a collective society, we need to get over the whole race issue and move on from it. It's over with, so continually depicting racial inequalities, racism, injustices, and so forth continues to perpetuate issues that no longer hold any merit in the area I live in anyways (America). My ancestors came to America in the early 20th century, after slavery and they experienced racism themselves. I feel empathy towards the slaves and people who do experience racism, but I don't feel any guilt since there's nothing to feel guilty about.

Are you including me? Because I'm not even white. 8O
People of my race are still persecuted today all over Europe. They are denied jobs, housing, schooling, etc. They are involuntarily sterilized. They are viewed as dirty sub-humans who are too lazy to work. Where my family came from, there have been several people murdered in the last few years simply for being of a particular race. Innocent people in their homes, not thugs, not criminals.

And yet I don't place the blame on whites as a race. I get annoyed when people do not understand privilege and make ignorant statements, but I still do not see the point in unearned guilt.

(What's POC?)

It's over with? Are you high? It's not even over with in my little corner of Florida, which is mostly populated by northerners who are, supposedly, so much more enlightened than southerners when it comes to topics of racial equality.

I didn't join this thread to point out the obvious. Those who wish to stay blind will remain blind no matter what I say. I contributed only for sErgEantaEgis and anyone else who feels similarly about the issue and wants to read my comment for more than superficial fodder to reinforce their own stubbornness.
