I'm approaching 30, but don't feel like a grownup.

I'm 41 and I'm going through my second childhood. I hope I never feel like a grownup. I'd rather keep playing than be a proper whatever you want to call it.

I'm 46, and I've still never had that "now I'm an adult" moment. I feel the same today as I did in college. A naive high-school kid who successfully escaped Mom and Dad's house. Not sure if the autism stuff has anything to do with that or not. But it does feel unusual.

I'm 33 & I never felt like a true adult. I think some of it is because I have physical & mental disabilities besides my Aspergers that limit me with independence & life

I'm 21 and I don't really feel like an adult either.

Being an adult is scary and boring to death. Why would I feel like one or want to be one ? I even have the baby face to go with my young personality !

I feel about the same as I did at 16, except I'm less stupid. I'm not really more mature. I'm wiser, but that's because I've learned things over time.

The brain supposedly continues to develop until one's early twenties, when it becomes "mature". I'm guessing something different happens in those with ASD, because I never went through the period where I began to feel "grown-up."

I'm more playful than most adults, and many teens. I like toys and videogames. I like to jump and run, and climb things. I like children's cartoons. I get easily enthusiastic over small things.

I read on lots of sites including this forum that us Aspies tend to mature slower & be a 3rd less mentally than our physical ages. If the brain quits developing in our early 20s & we're less mature, maybe we stay less mature.

I'm closing in on 50 and don't feel like an adult or grownup. More like a second iteration of teenage years, minus the energy level & fast healing.

Dr. Tony Attwood's "The Complete Guide to Asperger's Syndrome" also states that aspies tend to have an emotional maturity level approximately 2/3rds our chronological age.

I can certainly relate to that, especially in the past. But since figuring out how to treat my AS symptoms, while I can still crack immature jokes etc I certainly also feel a lot more mature than I did a few years ago and sometimes find myself being judgemental of others immaturity. It'll be a good thing for future business purposes to be a lot more mature.

Then again, even NT's state that they dont feel their age. A friend, who is 48 now, told me a decade ago that he still felt about the same as he did when he was 18.. just a lot more experienced and wiser. At 33 now, I can relate to that for sure.

Then there's my grandmother who's 94 and for years has said she looks in the mirror and wonders where this old person came from. I think it's pretty normal that people don't feel their age, especially if they're in good health.
