It's sad that there are so many unwanted cats in the world. Cats need good homes, so it's great that you were able to take a few in. But you have to make sure they get checked by the vet since many strays have diseases or parasites.

It depends how used to humans the cat is and what age it was taken home. Feral kittens can make really good pets - I have one myself. But adult cats, especially ones that had no contact with humans (noone feed them or even looked at them from close enough) will never be fully tame.

They're amongst the absolute best kind of well-behaved & loyal/friendly pet you can get ! (Besides the fact that they always want to go out-side at night-time which puts them in a lot of danger since our last one got ganged on & eaten by coyotes... bloody coyotes... need to kill some more of those pesky bastard pests that took away my important family member from me that day !)

I shoot them if I see them.

The native critters would thank me if they could.

In my opinion Feral Cats are wild.
They are used to being outside, and hunting for rats, mice, and birds.

I choose the actor. I observe NT's. I listen to their socializing. I practice it, so in social situations I can just emulate/mimic what is expected.
It isn't natural for me, but it enables me to "fit in".
It is VERY tiring and draining, but at least we can appear like them even though it is an act. Like being on the stage.
They can't see it is emulation, and so we are accepted.

I think a kind and gentle person could tame one with patience.Im not fond of cats running loose outside, one raked a baby bluebird out of the birdhouse in my yard and ran off with it.I wish people wouldn't dump them out.Another one showed up on my front porch but it was a young friendly kitten and my neighbor adopted it.

Some areas can handle feral kitties due to an abundant turn over with native wildlife (usually due to having native kitties in the first place).

Where I live, they kill everything until there's nothing left in their AO and the native wildlife struggles to come back from that, as they developed as a species without said feline predators.

If folks would neuter their cats and then commit to taking care of them, ie, keeping them indoors, it would not
be an issue. I blame people, not the poor cats. When I was growing up in the 1950's, there used to be packs of
stray dogs roaming through town. This is not seen today in this country except in the most rural areas. I hope
someday we will not see the poor feral cats, either.
