I ask this because I just had a chat with someone and I think he may have missed the point completely
he mentioned this.
"can't we all get along"
I found this statement odd so I replied with

The thing is, we will not all get along, and there will be no supreme working together because that isn't how humanity works, things will always be imbalanced!
Plus we are intrinsically designed to fear what is foreign, different or weird that's why people without knowing who I am subconsciously ostracize me, whole groups of people gather together in a circle over there and leave me out, because they have someone realized that they are this..and I am that!....science!

The only thing that will bring the entire human race in one accord is Aliens.
Because that's another being comparable to human beings that potentially has the power to destroy us all,
there will always be fights to the sky like crabs in a barrel.

The privileged and the less fortunate

..I think he may have misunderstood the words I used, or perhaps he mistook capacity with innate or maybe the alien bit freaked him out because I thought this was common knowledge.

Even in the animal kingdom, you see animals avoiding and fearing what is different. it's within us because it's a defense mechanism, but as humans being with our superior knowledge OR SUPPOSED superior knowledge we are adept with the capacity to get to know people then we can choose to accept or not once we realize ..hey that big black guy's a cool dude, he likes all the things I like.

am I making sense or this is just not an innate thing for us all?[/color]

.......seriously?

If you thought I was missing your point why couldn't you just confront me about it by responding to my private message?

Well whatever.

There are some people who don't mind "difference."

Others, though, are scared of it.

Humans have just barely just begun to learn that being different is not some horrible contagious disease they can catch, and nearly all humans in general LOVE treating anyone who is different that way, whether they admit it or not. So not, humans will never all get along. :x

But if they did, that probably wouldn't be good, either. It would be like that 80's cartoon The Get Along Gang where the complainer was always wrong and implied that you should never disagree or have a different opinion from your friends. If you did, you'd get into trouble and realize you should have listened to them all along. Ick.

Sort of; and some more than others. People with larger amygdalas tend to be more fearful, anxious, and suspicious; as do people with lower IQ's. Back when we were familial tribes of hunter gatherers, defending our wooly mammoth carcass with rocks and sharpened sticks from rival tribes and saber-toothed tigers, acute paranoia probably conferred an evolutionary advantage, but in a world that possess 14,575 nuclear weapons, that kind of rigid "us versus them" thinking could get us all incinerated. On a less catastrophic level, it certainly contributes to the totally needless suffering of discrimination, bigotry, scapegoating, and alienation. However, that's not some sort of predetermined destiny. Human beings are also "intrinsically designed" for altruism, community, and cooperation. We are all capable of overcoming the fear-mongering of our lizard-brain limbic system and tribal cultural conditioning and choosing to evolve. We don't have to be this way. We can "all get along".

^ Exactly. Humans are able to rise above their weak points and better themselves if they choose to.

ummm le duh! everyone agrees with that (stop pretending like you don't see the point), and I am not saying everyone should agree with me BUT the point is NOT really about humans' capabilities(WE are capable of a multitude of things)
this thread is really to discuss what I believe are our intrinsic desires and fears

The fear of what is different or weird I believe stems from the fear that rules all.
"THE FEAR OF THE UNKNOWN"
That's where I believe racism and prejudices are born.
"oh that person looks different" do not approach
BUT if you choose to isolate andNOT learn about the differences then you imagine and conjure up feelings and negative attitudes towards that race or group and end up doing and saying weird ish---- sort of like what Meghan Kelly said the other day.

Albeit I do believe even after some people have gotten to know the "others" they still hold on to their nature and nurture their prejudices or what their parents told them and hang on to it because they somehow think their side is better..so
They refuse to accept and THAT! is where the problem lies..

when you know better you should DO better
and don't let what I believe are our innate feelings of distrust for other races and groups take over. is all

I will admit that I am very wary of NTs as a group, simply because their response toward me hasn't been the most positive. It was never, "They are different from me, therefore I don't like them." Rather, "I'm the one whose different from them and the one they're more likely to ostracize, so I've got to be very cautious with them as a group." Yes, I probably do harbor prejudices toward NTs collectively, but it's from experience, not gut reaction.

So, in a sense, it's fear of otherness, but not due to an innate fear of NTs, rather a learned one, a coping mechanism if you will.

I've always found fearing the unknown interesting. Because really we fear the unknown because we fear what we do not understand. That's why so many people frown upon mental health conditions, because they don't understand it. Rather than try to understand most just pretend not to notice and get on with their own lives. It would an ideal world if we could all get along but there's so much difference and cultures that I don't ever see that happening. I often think back to the We Are The World song from the 80s, that was over 30 years ago and things aren't any different now and tbh, I doubt they ever will be. There are a lot of open minded people but there are also a lot of close minded people, I think it will always be this way which is a shame because when you get to know something and understand it you realise it's not as bad as you first thought.

@OP

1) i love your avatar
scott pilgrim is one of the best things i've encountered - too bad i won't be able to enjoy it anymore.

2) if your opening post is a response to a PM, maybe it would be better to keep it in PMs?
