anyone else feel bright but not smart?

all my life, they've called be "bright" but never really "smart", y'know? What's the difference? Is being bright being somewhat less smart than others in terms of book learning but in trivial smarts? I'm not smart. I just know a lot of stuff.

Being bright most likely means curious and knowledgeable in many areas, clever. Smart would probably relate more to school-related things.
I've been given many positive praises about my intellectual abilities, but I'm also chided for being childish, immature, and a bit stubborn. The compliments all relate to my intellect, which goes far beyond that of someone in my age group, but my social skills and mannerisms add a "childish" label. I say that's similar.

I posted this on my facebook:

Bright: adv. quick-witted, clever or intelligent.
Smart: adv. having or showing quick intelligence or ready mental capability.

So, what's the difference? Am I bright or am I smart? I'm not smart, I know that. I just know a lot of stuff.

I think bright is a way to describe your kid who's an underachiever but you want to give him a pat on the back anyway.

Smart is an honor roll student.

I am what some call an "insane genius"
I don't really know much about useful things-I more so, for example-have such a f****d up imagination I can write an entire novel from one little idea (say a scenario and I can write-a good-book about it) give me a bit longer and I can make it really weird. lol

Yeah I just did something really stupid thinking it would be smart but instead it pissed a bunch of people off.

Guess I have problems with impulse control.

Everyone says I'm smart but I don't think so. I make some dumb decisions and careless mistakes at least once a day.

I think "bright" and "smart" can be used interchangeably, as referring to someone being in the upper-average IQ range. "Smart" covers a wider range, and is also used for those in the gifted and genius levels.

Those are my general definitions only, and are subject to variation.

Smart - More wise, don't mess stuff up, possibly more machiavellian.
Bright - intelligent in the more familiar way, curious etc.

I'm more "quick" than "bright". Definitely more "bright" than "smart".

I'm very observant, very curious, and very fearless - so I think I experience a lot more than my "smart" more cautious family, friends and colleagues.

I think a lot of really smart people think they are so smart they close their minds. Especially, if something challenges their book-knowledge.

I am grateful to be a lot more modest about my "smarts" and admit my current knoweldge barely skims the surface. It seems as if I'm more "current" than a lot of people I know. (Applied knowledge?)

is this like looking at a word like "wish" for hours thinking this doesnt look right? what in the world is the difference between being smart and bright? i thought they were the same thing

Well I used my own definition of bright.

As in "I think I'm so smart but I'm not!"

I don't know to be honest, I feel stupid, but at the same time that is only because of one thing, mathemetics, my now secondary love of life, first being the big and beautiful chemistry, physics and biology (YES THEY GET TO COUNT AS ONE!! !), I don't really know how to class myself as smart, I was diagnosed hyperlexic, which is Aspie-Only condition, and I can learn almost anything given a few minutes of reading, because then the information passes to my mind and I can see almost anything in my head, right now I can see tritium and deuterium fuse together, its weird ya know, people think I am, and I very well might be, but only scientifically, I can't do up ties and I couldn't do my shoes for ages and I cannot cook or clean and I cannot usually aim while pissing lol, but oddly enough I can remember scientific facts with exceptional precision, so I like being me

I've always felt this way. I can grasp certain concepts quickly, and others not at all. I was (pretty) good up until Trig, then I lost the ability to follow mathematics completely...
