I'm trying to remember how I first heard the story:
A long time ago in a galaxy far, far, away.... (My infancy!)
I could easily have come across it as a wooden toy before hearing the bible account as such. I had one at a very early age made by my grandfather.
Certainly hearing it as a story it was "a story", at an age where stories were undifferentiated. Robin Hood was a story, Noah was a story, Snow White was a story.
Realising that some stories were true and some were not was a later development, as was the idea (still not fully resolved) of differeng concepts of true (and myth, come to that!).
And that some told as true might not be, and that some myths and tales have elements of history wrapped up in them. "A-tissue A-tissue, we all fall down!"
"Where were the dinosaurs?" was a question for later childhood.
Along with those about vegetarian lions etc.
