Does anyone else have any strange eating habits? I have several that stick out to me because my parents have specifically told me they embarrass them when I do it in public

I eat jam and jelly plain, and I especially love the single serve containers they have at restaurants. I always take a bunch and eat them with a spoon before my meal comes.

I eat pudding, yoghurt, and applesauce by licking it off the spoon. I NEVER put the spoon in my mouth.

Also, I HAVE to eat dessert last. I refuse to eat it first or in any other order. I also wont eat anything for breakfast that isn't specifically a "breakfast food". These two don't seem weird to me but other people think they are!

I had a lot more food oddities when I was younger (wouldn't eat something if another food had come in contact with it, wouldn't use the same utensil for more than one food, wouldn't eat the ends of french fries where my fingers had held them, etc) but these are the only ones that have stuck with me.

Food oddities are familiar territory for me (and many other Aspies, I suspect).

I can't eat breakfast, refuse to eat dinner after 7:00 p.m., and basically eat the same things every day at the same times. As a child I was "famous" in my family for peculiar ways of eating food, and peculiar food preferences. It's only gotten worse as an adult.

Not much beyond being incredibly picky, and easily paranoid about whether a certain food is spoiled :)

If I can think of anything beyond that, I'll post back. But for now I have to try to go to sleep.

I have trouble with food. I have to check if it's spoiled and I often sniff it. Drives my OH insane but I can't help it. My AS son can't eat fruit. He leaves the room if someone is eating fruit because just the thought of it makes him feel sick. He is fine with veggies :?

When I was younger I was a very picky eater, to the point my family was sometimes worried about me due to being skinny (also had a somewhat low birth weight, though still normal). I remember being in elementary school and the only thing I would eat for lunch was a baloney sandwich on white bread with mustard and the crust cut off, until I switched to liverwurst sandwiches on toasted bread with mustard. Oh, the baloney had to be Oscar Mayer and the liverwurst had to be a particular brand (I can see the label in my mind, but I can't remember what it was called). As I've gotten older my palate has broadened considerably, as well as my waistline.

I still have a tendency to eat certain favorite foods regularly, and there have been a number of restaurants where the waitstaff knew my order beforehand. I also have periods where I get obsessed with a certain food and may go several days where I only eat that food. The strongest recurring one is pancakes. If you're familiar with the frozen Aunt Jemima pancakes, that whole box would be one meal for me. I usually eat it with butter and syrup, sometimes just butter, and once in a while plain. I think I've gone as long as 1 or 2 weeks with that as my only food. Unfortunately, it's also the only one that has left me ill by the end of the period. :eew:

Another food issue I have is a recent one, only in the last year or so. If I eat when I'm not hungry, such as trying to eat on a schedule or trying to be nice to people offering food, I have a tendency to get nauseous. It's not all the time, but it's happened often enough that I just won't eat or refuse any food that's offered if I'm not hungry.

Oh, and some people are a little weirded out by the fact that I drink Tab.

Oh yes, I also did the recurring food thing for breakfast. I'd eat the same thing for breakfast every day for months, and then swtich to something else to eat every day. I had around 4 or 5 different things I'd eat for lunch and dinner that my mom would rotate.

I eat spoonfuls of peanut butter. Sometimes many, I've eaten like half of a tub of peanut butter before in one day. Just ate it throughout the day lol.

Nothing weird about that! The weird people are the ones who eat dessert BEFORE the main meal!

I eat my food in a certain order. First I eat the sides, then the entree last. And of course, dessert only afterwards. And I usually like to mix it up. And most of my food, I like it better when it's cold.

I eat some dips and salsas out of the jar. I am the opposite in that I often eat dessert first, and I often eat pizza, and hamburgers for breakfast.

The best dips are the jalapeno crab dip at HEB and the 3-cheese pepperoncini dip at Wal-Mart.

Well I have eaten some odd things in my time.

I say that as long as your food habit is not harmful to your health (like trying to live on nothing but ham and jelly), too expensive (like eating smoked salmon each day) or just plain gross (like having the most disgusting table manners imaginable) then I would say do not worry just carry on eating the way you want to.

I have a couple of odd habits.

Firstly, I cannot eat green beans, mange tout etc without first splitting them down the middle to reveal the contents. After finding several bugs inside them over the years I'm now rather paranoid about what I might be eating.

Also, I have tomato ketchup with every cooked meal regardless of where I am or who is with me. Even in the most expensive restaurant in town I'll still ask for ketchup.

I prefer to eat the same thing for breakfast and dinner every day. I can sometimes choose between cereal or oatmeal for breakfast, but it's troublesome if dinner is different. When I lived on my own that was much easier, but now that I've moved home due to the rubbish economy... the crazy people insist on something different every night.

I would often make a large quantity of black beans and rice, chili, lentil curry, or something similar and just eat that for dinner all week. It was a very comfortable routine.

I like the strawberry ones. They are like semi liquid Jolly Ranchers. I don't eat them alone, however. I have a thing for tiny creamer containers in plastic but I put them in coffee. Square butter packets are cool. I can see why you like them.

Eating dessert last is understandable, because our parents insist on it when we are young. They say, "after dinner", because it will spoil our appetite. I went through a phase where I ate it first but not any more, because the sugar is too much for my system on an empty stomach, followed by a meal of more carbohydrates. I am carbohydrate-conscious these days because they zap my energy.

I wouldn't eat corn bread, guacamole, stuffing, apple sauce, or oat meal. I liked mashed potatos, surprisingly, but not candied yams. I was picky about texture and color. I didn't like mushy dishes.
