So I just published a memoir on my life with autism...
Almost two years in the works... it's finally finished!
I conceived this project after developing the belief that John Robison's and Tim Page's books really did not grasp the essence of autism, especially the difficulties with interpersonal relationships. (All due respect to them, they are both very capable authors.) I figured what with my work on movie sets, solitary road trips, and crazy-heart romances (mostly "attempted" romances), my life has been interesting enough to warrant a book. I chose the self-publishing route because I did not want the book to be "censored," or the anecdotal style of writing to be butchered by copy editors. In other words, I wanted complete control of the whole thing.
The book deals with mainly adult issues (which I feel have been under-represented) and it contains explicit content. The website contains sample passages, and I hope WP users and visitors will check it out.

Well done on finishing. I've read a couple of the samples - had you thought about making those just a little longer to get a better "feel" for the book?
I also read John Robison's book but whilst it was a vaguely interesting read what he described didn't convey any of the difficulties you'd expect from someone with aspergers. Yes he had troubled parents but so do many other people, and yes he comes across as something as a loner but he never described any of the issues that troubled him.
I believe they're pretty effective microcosms of the book as a whole. I have some from each phase of my life, childhood, adolescence, adulthood. Some of them are really short, but that's because I wanted to make each one readable as an independent passage.
My thing is I didn't have troubled parents. The issues I've had in my life come from having autism. When anyone with a psychiatric condition comes from a disturbed family it is always a question, how many of their issues are organic and how many come from a bad childhood?
Looks good, I love reading memoirs by other Aspies. I love the cover and the title. I will be sure to check out. I felt that Tim Page's book was hardly about AS at all. He himself admits this on his Amazon page though and says that the publishers are the one who put the subtitle about Asperger's, not him. I love reading books that I can really relate to. Thanks for sharing with us.
