do you have trouble sensing your bodily sensations?

for example the other day i was in a stressful place, like a party and i followed my mom to the bathroom without actually needing to pee. then, to my surprise the matter was actually pretty urgent, but my body didn't give me any indication that i neened to go the loo. i also forget to drink unless somebody reminds me of it.

all of this also happens when i'm studying something that is very interesting: my focus is fully on the subject that i'm studying and so i don't notice that i need to drink very badly, and i get the first signals of disidratation(headache and cramps) instead of the feeling of thirst.

thirst for me is when the mouth is dry, so i know what the sensation is.

At least you can take solace from the fact that many people have experienced what you're experiencing.

I've "forgotten" to pee on at least a few occasions.

I've never had this, even as a small child. In fact I can't focus very well if I need the toilet. And stress doesn't affect my bodily senses. The lowest functioning I've ever been was when I had the flu, but even then I still somehow made it to the toilet.

Yes, I often fail to notice both internal sensations (e.g. hunger, thirst, needing the loo) and external ones (e.g. position of my limbs, temperature, pain).

The same as you (Xsara), it's made worse by stress, especially if a shut-down or melt-down is coming; but it also happens more when I'm very hyper-focused on something, or for a while after I've woken up or moved to a different environment (e.g. from indoors to outdoors).

Forgetting to drink... Or I drink too much. Suddenly desperately needing to wee. I never knew this was a sensory issue?

In school, they usually only teach the classic "five senses"; sight, hearing, smell, taste, and touch. But there are really far more than that; senses for things inside our bodies (interoception), senses for where our body parts are (proprioception), temperature, pain, balance, and probably a load more that I've missed. Autistic sensory differences can affect any of these other ones, too.

I can be driving along in the car (For some reason I seem to notice this more when driving?) and then all of a sudden I need the loo, and I am feeling ill with it, as if I have been needing the loo for ages and it has reached the point of feeling physically ill through not going... And yet I knew nothing about it until that moment! And also, when I do find a place to go (Often hiding myself in a hedge somewhere. Is aweful at night if I am in a built up area... Rural areas are more forgiving) I then find it is hard to go because I have left it so long!

^ Yup, the same things happens to me if I'm very focused on something that I'm doing. Other times, I suddenly realise that I'm freezing cold, or that I have a dead foot from sitting with my legs crossed, or that I'm starving hungry; all sorts of weird things.
