I'm not paranoid. People do think I am STUPID

Since I learned it's very likely I have AS, I've come to realize that I am not as paranoid as I thought I was: People do think I am stupid and do treat me like I am stupid.

Speaking of mental illnesses, how can a person who is not an idiot but who constantly gets treated like an idiot not feel depressed?

My family members know I am not stupid, but they dislike the way I am and insist I need to change. They also deny that I am the way I am because I suffer from a rare mental condition.

When it comes to strangers, at first they are friendly, but a few minutes into a conversation they usually start to look at me weird and become inhibited. That is, of course, my interpretation of their reaction, so take it for what it's worth. It's not unusual for a person who tries to be friendly one day to make fun of me or badmouth me or ignore me the next day. That was particularly true in high school.

Deep inside I wish I had the mental capacity to beat my aggressors verbally, but I'm not that witty. It's very likely I'd just end up saying something stupid, anyway.
