This is a thread directed primarily at the older aspies (i.e. no longer teens). Basically what I want to ask is do you ever feel like a child in an adult's world? I do a lot, and it gets really ovrwhelming at times.

Why not creat time in you day for 'kid time'? Where you can do all things that are kid like.
There are so many adults who don't take time out to relax and they end up getting burnt out.
So go on, play at the park or in the leaves or with play dough or whatever it is that YOU want to do.

As in 'feel like a kid at heart'? I no longer do. I feel something else.

Randomly mostly.

Sorry let me clarify this a bit. What I mean is that in social and work situations I sometimes feel like I did when I was a kid in a room full of adults: as if everyone around is so much wiser and 'together' than me. I feel like I'm an imposter a lot of the time, and waiting to be 'found out' as having the common sense etc of an average teenager. I guess its just a general anxiety but the child analogy is porbably the closest thing I can think of to a more common experience. Anyone ever felt like this?

Sometimes I feel like I am not appreciated as a grown adult around other adults, like at my work, well.. on second thought they do. But working in a grocery store, all the adults have great respect for me, they know I am a hard worker and very mature. But if I am in the break room or hanging around the adults, I feel like I don't fit in with their conversations, although I do understand their conversations. I feel as though I am still not an adult yet.

But I am guessing that this is because it's only been 8 months since I turned 18. I guess I just still need to get used to being an grown adult, because even after turning 18 I don't feel like an adult sometimes, I feel like a teen.

I thought so when I was your age. Now I'm 25 and still feel exactly the same.

Some of my interests are those of a much older person and some are more childlike.

I don't really think I'm the best person to give advice, but I do like the suggesting about running with one's special interests. It could be anything from world capitals to cat breeds, to name just a couple of my interests.

So you're saying that other people don't know that you have the common sense of a teenager? It's something you're trying to hide?

I get anxious in practically every social situation. Especially about saying something stupid, which happens a lot, whether on purpose or not.

I sometimes like to act a bit like a teenager. It's refreshing, but conscience. Less is expected of you.
