Anyone keep notes for people's language translations?
Is there anyone that keeps notes on people they know like whenever that person says X, they mean Y so you write down x=y so you know every time they say Y, they mean X.
I am starting to do that now. I have an aspie friend who seems to have his own language. He says things but means something else. Like today I learned when he said "Rumors can't hurt you" he meant they can't hurt you by the law so I wrote that down on my Word Pad.
I was talking to another aspie yesterday and when he said "seriously autistic" he meant argument because I asked what did he mean by that.
I don't write them down but I do try to connect them into my mental network of ideas. Every human being has a different way of talking, so it's like learning a new dialect for every person you meet. Thankfully, I'm good with languages. I figured out idioms on my own pretty early on, something my mom still hasn't done (well, sometimes she'll purposely use an idiom, and then laugh at how funny it sounds to her--yes, Mom is definitely Aspie!). I can usually figure out a new phrase or word from context. Of course, some people don't use a lot of context. You'll get things like, "Soo... it was like, well, you know, like that... and then I thought, you know, I might as well..." which are pretty much nonsensical; so you have to listen to them like music instead of words, and get meaning from the way they sound instead of the words. That takes a lot longer, and repeated exposure usually, along with making connections to the person's actions. If you don't listen to the words you can often get a little more of the body language; or anyway, I can.
