For as long as I can remember, I've always felt a disconnection with my body. Never felt like it was really a part of me, what I am. I've tried different things to remedy this, but have found no improvement. I feel like I'm just operating someone else's body. I don't have a particular possession/affection toward it the way I think other people do.

I don't know if it's the same problem, but I also feel like there's something underneath my skin I need to pick out when I'm really stressed...or just periodically for no reason. I have urges to scrape or dig at my skin, with or without the emotional belief that there's "something underneath" there. I really made a habit of it when I was younger because I didn't know better, but I try to refrain these days.

plagued by health problems, there are times when i fantasize about being able to borrow another body to let my old body heal by some miraculous method.

I tend to think of my physical self as sort of a pet that I'm permanently responsible for, subject to punishment by the universe if I neglect it.

Do you know of anyone else in your family who has unusual perceptions? Anyone who's somehow "eccentric" but not apparently autistic? Anyone with schizophrenia? Can you relate to any of this or this?

If your answer to one or more of those questions is "yes", then there's a pretty good chance that the things you described are schizotypal traits. I've been diagnosed with both ASD and schizotypal disorder at different times. In my case I think it really just boils down to interpretation. "Schizotypy" is correlated with schizophrenia in the family, and that's pretty consistent across studies, but otherwise I'm pretty sure it would be simply considered as a form of ASD today (and maybe someday it will). There's a lot of overlap.

i also have both schizoid and ASD Dx'es. i think it is fairly common for those of us on the spectrum to have this uncomfortable feeling in our own skins. alky and pot were no real help. nitrous, OTOH... :drunken: :hic: :colors: :bounce:
