Not meaning to complain, but in that first paragraph of reading that infernal combination of letters in that book, I knew that Hester was going to have an affair with the priest, and I was able to predict how that entire relationship would turn out. I read the rest of the book to verify that my prediction was correct. After I read it, I literally ripped the book apart and threw it across the room. Then I cleaned up the mess, lol. Yes, I had a small temper fit, but it was worth it. I wouldn't recommend that book to anyone. Bah, Hawthorne!

You know not the meaning of suffering. Not only was I forced to read the book, our teacher made us watch the four-hour long miniseries. This was the only time in my life I nearly cried in agony because the movie was so close to the book. Nathaniel HAthorne has committed even worse atrocities than his ancestor. If I ever build a time machine, I will introduce that s.o.b. to Clive Barker's happy place.

The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Nighttime-The character had every stereotyped autistic behavior and a negative view of life. It was a fast read, but very depressing.

The Empty Fortress-Bruno Bettleheim. Perpetuated the ugly stereotype of the "refrigerator mother."

I don't care for Harry Potter, either, or for J.K. Rowling. She seems like a person uncomfortable with success, and is ungrateful to those who brought it about.

See, that's the problem; if the book's bad enough, I won't finish it. Some books I never finished;

Mein Kampf - Adolf Hitler (it's worse than you'd think I'm guessing that the reason the Germans tried to take over the world was they were trying to find a place that didn't make you read it...;)

Diuretics, by Elron Hubbard - got about 20 pages in, and gave up. What a load of bollocks...;)

Dahlgren - some sci-fi novel. Couldn't make head nor tail of it. Gave up

Silmarillon - take it back, I actually did finish reading this, but only before it almost finished me..;)

anything by Vladimir (Illyich Ulyanov) Lenin - how this stuff started a revolution, I'll never know. I recommend this for any insomniac...;)

that's all that comes to mind.

2061 by Arthur C. Clarke. He's had many bright shining moments. This wasn't one of them.

The latest series by David and Leigh Eddings Made it through two books before I couldn't take it anymore.

Faith of the Fallen by Terry Goodkind -- the utter lowpoint of the "Sword of Truth" series.

Dianetics - L. Ron Hubbard(looks like I'm not the only one)

The Turner Diaries - Andrew MacDonald aka William Luther Pierce

"Greatest salesman in the world" by Og Mandino.

I was forced to read this in high school it is supposed to teach you success, but seriously, it is so full of BS!, if we ever get to the point in which banning books becomes acceptable, I would only agree to ban it and not any other book.

All of those self-help books and anything written by motivational speakers is a load of garbage. I get more inspiration from biographies of genuine achievers, not from people whose job it is to win people's confidence.

Anything recommended by the Oprah book club, although Deep End of the Ocean does have one cute quote, "Cats regard humans as warm-blooded furniture." I won't slog through a whole book just to find it, however. "Chick lit" is not my style.

Books recently selected by the Oprah book club:
Three books by William Faulkner
100 Years of Solitude
Anna Karenina
Night
The Poisonwood Bible
East of Eden

Chick lit? Methinks not. It sounds more like a college literature course to me.

I'm not Oprah's biggest fan, but I don't like it when people mistake the book club for fluff when it's not.

A book my sister bought me and I promised her I would read it. Couldn't get past chapter three.

I doubt the author is well known in the States - Mariah Stewart?

Heart of Darkness, Joseph Conrad - had to study it last year in school, and it bore me to tears. The only reason I turned up to those lessons was that we were comparing it to the Lord of the Flies

Pride and Prejudice - Seriously the only book I've started and never finished. And again it was for school.

Eragon and Eldest, Paolini - "Eragon, I am your brother."
