....If I ever get it finished, that is.
It is a fantasy satire. Centred around a story of exploration and discovery, it follows the life of ship's captain Jose Alfonso, and his first mate, Jesus H Carreras, who has an interesting amalgam of speech impediments.
The ship, Feckless but Reckless, sets sail in search of a shortcut to the faraway land of Nearby, where they hope to trade precious Mininovan gold for spices. Something very big and squelchy stands in their way, along with something a bit more dangerous that has teeth and an aversion to silver crucifixes.
Meanwhile, the Gods have hired a new overseer, who seems remarkably good at His job.
There are a lot of parodies involved, from Christopher Columbus, to religion, TV, music and general life. The majority of the Gods are basically personifications of immaterial things (like the Death character from Terry Pratchett's Discworld series, who has an equivalent in this story), so the reader can expect some clever wordplay involving them.
However, it's set in the past, before Ameerkat was discovered, so Misery only has a slight crush on Company, Fate hasn't yet forgiven for Curiosity after He found His cat had been involved in a messy altercation with a warrior's spear, and Disease is still pulling doubles because Progress is on holiday. In other words, it's a long time ago.
Based on this short description, a good read, or annihilation of fiction?
((((hugs))))
