I have come to the conclusion the normal web of NT ambiguities (lies) is why they struggle with us, especially in the beginning.

Honesty forces them to take responsibility for their decisions/actions. Ambiguity allows them to avoid responsibility.

Almost all of my girlfriends I have know for a few years before we started dating.
