Gave up, and I feel fine!
I'm too weird, too thin, too "atheist"' apparently, etc etc
So I've thrown myself into building my business a little more, and my special interests.
The really cool thing is that it really doesn't bother me that much - I'm having fun rediscovering all the things I shoved aside to find a relationship.
I'm sure this feeling won't last forever, but it might be something my fellow Undateables might want to consider...
Now if you'll excuse me, I think I'm going to spend a huge wad of money on something completely useless.
That is pretty much what I have done too, and I am also enjoying it.

Taking a break.
I think too that it's our aspie traits more than any other personal traits that cause us to struggle. I've been currently dating someone a few months and during that time I've been so neurotic about the whole thing I've dragged him through hell and back... several times. Fortunately for me he's extremely resilient. I wish there was more research out there about adult aspies and the dating process because it's hard to solve problems you simply don't understand.
To me, I think another problem you seem to be encountering (unless I'm mistaken) is the problem of compatibility. You're unusual, and this makes you incompatible with the majority of people (like attract like). I've found myself than often I only ever meet someone I feel romantic attraction to once every 2 years or so, and I meet a lot of people!
I think the best and only way to continue really is to soldier on with your life, enjoy the non-romantic aspects of your life (as you seem to be doing!), while keeping your mind open to the possibility of romance if the right person comes along. I think in all honesty you're most likely to meet a compatible match which you're living your normal lifestyle, as the other person would then have similar interests and ideologies. I think meeting people via a dating site, although it may speed up the waiting process, is harder in this sense because you're searching from a pool of mostly incompatible people.
Actually, what Esther (who I've met in person BTW, she's a neighbor so she knows me a bit better than most) was referring to is my habit of feeling the need to "get out of Dodge" every few months, just throwing a dart at the map and then buying a plane ticket to see what's there.
Instead I find myself dragging all my diving/fishing equipment out of mothballs - I should be creeping out (and potentially eating) the local sea life in no time.
For me at least, I found the whole online dating thing to be extremely unproductive. A relatively huge amount of work just to remain in place - not worth it...
Your post was awesome, as usual - thanks!
I was one of several people from the other thread and my comments were taken completely out of context by another member.
OK fine, I'll just leave it at "too thin" then...
Granted, I've only seen your avatar, but I think "too thin" can be challenged too.
Actually there were a few responses on a thread recently that mentioned being too thin as a dating dealbreaker, even more so thatn being overweight (obviously this mostly applies to guys).
I have done everything possible to mitigate (my house looks like Gold's Gym), but there's a limit to what can be done. My legs in particular are borderline grotesque even though they are actually quite strong now.
People are not obligated to give you a reason for rejecting you, in my case I think it's often my weight.
Ah well, I breastfed. The "girls" will never be the same. We all have our flaws.
Don't go to Redondo Beach.
I heard about that! Never seen anything like it, I used to work in that area a lot back in my marine biology days so I know the area. My guess - an accident involving an anchovy/sardine seiner dumping their catch, not a natural phenomena.
Either way, your going to be able to smell Redondo 20 miles away pretty soon...
You can be drained and have a relationship OR you can be invigorated and stick to your special interests, myself I prefer to be invigorated !
Lets not forget most apsies in a relationship is a fraud for the fact most of us have dissimilar interests to other members of the general public.
A"other" will take us way from the things that's are near and dear to us. The only other in my life are my pets I know I am very liked by them.
Are you very well liked by your other aspies here (I'm talking about the 3 .5 % of us here who are in a relationship.) I suspect not I think theirs even a moaning bitchy step ford wives website that b***h and moan about their aspie husbands , need to track it down.....
Oh can I repeat my metaphor again please
, I quite like it
an aspie going into a relationship would be kinda like putting Bill Gates , Steve Jobs and a PS 3 in a room , sure the Trash media would full for it as would the misinformed members of the general public hell may those in lower management but those in the know and I mean really in the know know not much can come out of it more than likely it would end up in tears!

In general you'd be right, but I live behind the "Orange Curtain" as it's called here, it's like someone broke off a piece of Texas and dropped it in the middle of southern California...
