I've noticed that, in my dormitory, most of the freshman men and women had already paired up before I got here as a transfer student the weekend before classes started. In addition, I've noticed many, many couples walking together, holding hands or sitting and studying together on campus.

Since the proportion of single women to involved women seems to be so low here, that means, if I want to find a girlfriend, I'm going to have to take another guy's girl. I may have to be brazen and flirt with girls right in front of their boyfriends! I'm sure they'd try to get the woman's attention back on them, so I'd just pull the attention back away from them. I may even hint at this guy's rudeness. Anyway, this seems to be the only way here: forcing others apart to get a girl.

Hi,
No offense intended but you must realize that you can't force a couple apart. I hope you're joking about the whole matter. It won't win you any friends or popularity points. Why not focus on friendships first?? You might find that there are girls that are available and if you treat them well, perhaps they'll want to go out with you. But trying to break up a couple won't win you any dates. I can assure you of that.
Good Luck,
Mellow

That's downright rude of you to say. I am kind to people. I occasionally tell jokes that people call funny. I can't help it that I have Asperger's syndrome. Other people need to look beyond the weird idiosyncrasies I have and learn to like that I rarely ever say anything interesting and my jokes are all pretty lame, but they should accept me anyway because I'm a fellow human being.

Thats a bit harsh eamonn. Its not like he can help the fact that he's an aspie.

I agree though that becoming friends with girls is a much better idea than trying to split couples apart. Being a nice guy can actually help you out a bit with this... Become friends with girl A, girl B is looking for a man and comes crying to girl A, girl A may try to set you up with girl B. This has happened to me during my freshman year but the relationship didn't last long. Also I had met a 'girl A' who at one point really seemed like I could've bagged but I ended up not... partially because she had a boyfriend, partially because she was sexually minded in ways that really scared me sometimes. Note that when I say that being a nice guy can help, it can also lead to you being really badly used by a girl who will lead you on... But you seem smart enough that I'm sure you already know that.

i think what eamonn meant was that you shouldn't try to beat NT's at their own game- you won't be able to out-do them when it comes to social skills / manipulation. you probably have lots of other skills that will put the competition to shame, so choose another weapon!

is that what you meant eamonn?

Yes something like that. I was encouraging NeantHumain to look further into his persona and how he comes across to see where he is going wrong and what he can do to improve himself and hence his chances of finding a partner.

Plus it's selfish and unethical.

If eamonn had said "There's no reason why they have girlfriends and you don't," it would have been less 'harsh', and also complete bull. Asperger's or not. A relationship is not a rusty screw. You can not grab a wrench and force it, and if you try, you're going to end up in the hospital or prison.

But people do it all the time; they just go about it with a little subtlety. I think if you're young, as long as the other person's not married, or doesn't have kids with their partner, they're fair game.

I think it's immoral. Wait a month Neant, half the couples well have broken up and then you can flirt with all the wonderful single people. I've been in a situation like this before.

Apart from the moralistic aspect as has been pointed out by ghostistix, you will probably end up in hospital if you go around over-stepping the mark. Dont rub another man's rhubarb. If a woman's relationship with her boyriend is waning and you happen to fall for her, that isnt so bad but to actually look to pull women in relationships is another ball game. Guys that go around looking to do that are lower than a snakes arse.

I totally agree.

The motive of this thread is selfish.

Quote:
I can't help it that I have Asperger's syndrome

What's that got to do with being a selfish prick trying to break people up?

Quote:
But people do it all the time

Doesn't make it right, or a viable excuse.

I know what NeantHumain is saying. In a college town, no one seems to be single. But I don't think you should try to break up couples.

The way it seems to work is networking. One could make a complex string chart of the social interworkings of people. To get a girlfriend in this situation, you must have lots of "strings." For NTs, it's an efficient system. When a girl becomes singles, she's only single for a few days before she gets picked up by the next guy in the system.

It sucks if you're not part of this system, but that's life.
