I have a mechanical view of sexuality, some would say it is quite child like. I find the concept of romantic relationships quite hard to understand. That might explain why I did not try and pursue a relationship from the age of 14 onwards.

This is maybe a result that I am much more severely autistic than others on this discussion. On the other hand, It could be a result of never had a functioning romantic relationship as a role model when I was growing up. I am wondering if others think the same way I do.

My parents were never really romantic either, they are still together and they love eachother, but they never showed affection, or not much anyways, ecpecially not in front of us, they didnt really talk to me about relationships either, I didnt have a girlfriend untill I was 19 years old, I never persued women, mainly because I always expected the worse, as of now ive had 2 girlfriends total. I guess you just gotta wait for the right girl, thats what everyone used to tell me, I would respond with, "ive been waiting for years, when is she gonna come," also, if you dont go out there and experience relationships you wont ever get any better at them. thats my theory.

Well I lived with my mother from age 3 to 13 and she never had any relationships and only had a couple of close friends. From age 13 onwards I lived with my dad and his ex wife and their relationship was gradually heading downhill.

I haven't had a girlfriend and I'm going to be 23 in March. Chances are I will never have a girlfriend or never get married. I just do not know to establish and maintain a relationship. Given that I have little self esteem and no job right, I do not want to pusure a relationship for the time being.

yes, i feel the same way, my parents are the most opposite from romantic as you can imagine. my parents are so far from romantic, they don't hold hands when they go out together. they don't kiss either

My family doesn't touch, hug, ect. and my parents broke up when I was a baby, so I never saw them together as a couple. I don't think it changed how I am though with other people, I don't relate to my family about anything they do, so this is no exception.

My parents seem to be together to be parents...not to be a married couple. Strange that so many have replied here with the same thing... :?

I might know what you mean. I tend to see relationships and sex for what they are, rather than the purpose they serve, or just not thinking about it at all like normal people. If you're old enough you should check out my thread in the mature forum about the concept of sex.

Wow, you just described the way it was for me right there. I barely remember even ever seeing my folks hug. Kinda makes you wonder if aspergers isn't a nutured thing, rather than biological.
