I want to write a story about two twins with autism. They're names are Kana and Hina. Kana has classic autism and Hina has Asperger Syndrome. I just need ideas... I want to start things off when they are around two and Kana begins showing signs of Classic Autism... and Hina starts showing signs of AS, being the first to talk at the level of a four year old, even though she is only two.

But... I'm just stuck because of writer's block... and I want to know some ideas you guys can give me. Maybe share some of your experiences? It would really help me a lot because I want to make this a good story. :(

Well, first off, before you go around asking for ideas from people, ask yourself what the central theme and conflict of the story are. Without any idea of what you want those to be, you're not going to get anywhere when it comes to building a coherent storyline, no matter how hard you try.

First, take some time to think about the point you want to get across to the reader, whatever that may be. For example, is it about triumph over adversity, succumbing to chronic failure, the power of love or friendship, or what? Then ask yourself, what problems would come between the characters and the goals and dreams they have, whether those are social problems, emotional problems, psychological problems, physical ones, or all of the above. If you start there, you're on a pretty solid path to forming a properly thought-out story that will be entertaining and engaging to read.

Well, the basis of the story is a slice of life. It's basically where they start out at two years old and grow up with many challenges from people around them because of how different they are from everyone else, you know that sort of thing...

Define those challenges to yourself, and you've got your conflict right there, ready to go. But what's the theme? Most slice of life fiction centers on the stuff like the power of will to overcome adversity, the bonds of friendship, family and tradition, and the stuff I mentioned before, among other subjects.

If you're still really stuck for material after working out the basics, then maybe it's not such a good idea to base a story on. Not trying to discourage you, but some ideas just never turn out as good on the page as they seem in your head.

And, as a side note, I have an identical twin brother, myself, which makes your idea somewhat relevant to me. I have AS, but my brother's an NT, though.
