There are quite a few songs I listen to when I'm feeling down (which happens quite often). Most of the time I pretend it's someone singing to me. Here's my short list:

"Heart of the Wound," Sara Lovell (she actually sang this for me at one of her shows!)
"Heart and Shoulder," Heather Nova
"I'll Stand By You," Pretenders (I actually don't listen to this one too often, because it's just too far outside my personal experience)
"Protection," Massive Attack
"Angel," Sarah McLachlan
Vocalise, Op 34/No. 14, Rachmaninoff
"Little Wing," Stevie Ray Vaughan
"Riviera Paradise," Stevie Ray Vaughan
"I'll Be Seeing You," Sonny Stitt
"True Colors," Eva Cassidy

Kozmic Blues by Janis Joplin

Depends - sometimes I'm depressed in a way that I want to feel more down... in which case I pull out the Closer album by Joy Division. Or True To Form by Hybrid (upbeat song but poignant lyrics). After a bad breakup, its Porcelain by Moby.

If I want to boost myself up, Technique album by New Order.

I'm a huge SRV fan too. Little Wing is a slice of heaven, isn't it?

I definitely agree. I think it's probably his best piece of music. It still gives me chills whenever I listen to it.

One song that takes me away from bad feelings is "The Working Hour" by Tears for Fears. I might like that to be played at my funeral.

It depends on why I'm upset. If it's something to do with romance (which was only once, a few years ago) then it would either be The Winner Takes it All (by ABBA) and I'm Not That Girl (from the musical Wicked). If I'm just generally angry and/or confused and/or upset them I listen to Nobody's Side (from the musical Chess). If I'm disappointed with someone then I listen to The Deal (also from Chess). If I am confused and indecisive I listen to Someone Else's Story (from Chess yet again--I really love that musical).

Extraordinary Machine by Fiona Apple, several times, and if that doesn't help, a playlist consisting of only my three favorite artists.
