Here is the website to get the list. It is the radio station in the seattle so everyone can guess what number one is

F'ing Nevermind and OK Computer on the top 2 spots. What, was this list compiled by 12-year-olds?

Where is Hendrix? Where is Deep Purple's Machine Head?

EDIT: Wait, oh crap. Those both precede 1972. That's why there's no Beatles on the list either. Never mind, never mind.

Yeah some amazing albums are missing because KCMU wasn't old enough.

It's yet another case of, right list, wrong order.

Edited due to lack of paying attention to the 1972 part.

It's a Seattle radio station, can't blame the listeners for being fond of Nirvana.

Again the albums had to start from 1972 on.

KEXP, being an indie/punk/alternative station, didn't needed to say that their list leaned towards those genres. IMHO, some of the best non-classical albums of the past 40 years:
Pink Floyd - The Wall
The Cars - The Cars
Van Halen - I
U2 - War
Rush - Moving Pictures
Rush - Hemispheres
Janet Jackson - Rhythm Nation 1814
Stevie Wonder - Songs In The Key Of Life
Bob Marley & the Wailers - Exodus
Boston - Boston
Fleetwood Mac - Rumours
Def Leppard - Hysteria
Metallica - Metallica

This is going to sound stupid, but every time I read the phrase "from the last 40 years", my mind immediately goes "40 years ago... that's the 1960s right?" I've no idea why my internal sense of time hasn't adjusted, and I'm only 25 years old.

 Same.

And still thinking the 1990s was ten years ago.

My theory is, it may be because the 2010s don't really feel all that much like a culturally distinct decade from the 2000s quite yet.

Anyway... yeah, I understand why they put Nevermind and OK Computer at the top. It's not to say those aren't good albums, but it's so cliché at this point-- and honestly, on a list where Dark Side of the Moon meets the criteria to show up, it's a bit disappointing that it loses out to those two. There were a few other choices just in the top 20 which struck me as odd-- Arcade Fire, for one-- and of course, there were some albums missing from the list which I really thought should have been represented (Really? 650 albums listed, and no Porcupine Tree at all? Not even In Absentia or Fear of a Blank Planet?).

Unless Energy by Operation Ivy is no. 1, the list means nothing.

Its a pretty cool list of albums, I've never heard the band x before but will check them out. Its great to see Mclusky in there considering they aren't even that well known in the UK. I also think the Libertines deserve be in there somewhere.

It's from 1964.
