umm, it'd cost less then $5/month to setup and run the server.

ALex is already making a GREAT amount of money off the site.

And don't forget some of us not only have the skills to properly run this, but have offered to do so for FREE in the past, and might be willing to now, with some conditions

or... there is my server as a backup, a place we can actually provide good service as well as protection of user privacy and more effective control of problems. That is, if I was in a position to fix them, including getting rid of several ops who, imho, need to go.

I had volunteered in the past to host the chat room, even got permission from my upstream provider and exceptions to normal policy for the purpose of a support environment. My offer was turned down by Alex, multiple times, as well as resulting in disapproval from many users on the network (for many ...

since no one bothered to address this, and since, last time I checked, I was the only one who kept the rules up, or did much at all reguarding them, here are the rules as they stood (at least when I was pretty much running the channel) Perhaps we should just stay with what works, and no one has a co...

*remembers why he left* Oh, yeah, politics. *clearly made the right decision, and has NO sympathy for the mess that is there now* FWIW we miss you. You were a good op. Those are in short supply right now (heck, ANY ops are in short supply right now). And more importantly, you at least give off the ...

For the umpteenth time. #wpchat has nothing to do with the wrongplanet.net. Please find somewhere else to complain about it or ask for support. Well, the channel is actually #wrongplanet on FreeNode, and it was started as a real-time version of the forum by Alex Plank, I should know, having been ac...

I don't have intentions of fueling a flame war, but I have to second Bateu's opinion in that Pikachu is a huge douche in just about every way possible. The chat is a s**thole not because of the lack of ops but rather because of s**ts like Pikachu that run the channel with a douchebaggy attitude. I'...

You know, pikachu, (and many others, not just you), it's (ab)users like you who have disgusted me and many/most of the other ops to the point we don't want to go there anymore. We volunteer our time and skills to trying to help out the channel, some of us even volunteer other resources that cost us ...

Posting your IP is really a minor security risk at worst. Trust me, neither hackers nor crackers need to know your IP to target you, and most attacks are automated scans of thousands of machines at once. The only real risk would be if you had a static IP, and had known poor security (worse then usua...

Should be fixed now, it indeed was stuck in the records due to the server non-sync, but it was a pain having to find which one (chat is not a server, rather a pointer to a lot of servers. kubrick on the other hand, is a single server)

non-discredited??? I'm not sure if I should be insulted here or what... There are still some rather major stability problems with Alex's server, and Freenode had split many servers earlier today for a resync, as things weren't updating across servers. Please provide us the name of the server you wer...

If you are using a proxy or a large (corportate/hotel/etc.) nNAT taht is a likely cause, they are frequently banned due to abuse. SHould all go well, I will have my IRC gateway up again shortly, in the mean time, you can use a cgi gateway, like the one on this site (the lightweight chat, which can b...

Some of you may know "Bateau" aka "Section9" of the chatroom here. He came into the chatroom tonight, constantly complained of "Taggard" "having him banned" in a retaliatory tone. Hmm, and why wouldn't I be upset with Taggard, did you bother to see the widely discussed account of what happened? No?...

The server is having a configuration headache. I think Alex or someone messed with some code to try to reduce computation load, yet screwed some thigns up. The package they are running is rather large and has a lot of configuration varibles to factor in. That is no real functional disruption at leas...
